It is a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Several times lately when I have been driving, my check gages light comes on and my battery gage has dropped to the far left. This means that the battery is either not receiving enough volts or is not charging? However, the car keeps running fine and everything electric still works. It has a brand new battery and alternator. What else could be causing the problem?
Update:Forgot to add: right before the battery drops, the engine makes a squealing noise for 30 seconds to a minute. This whole problem only happens sometimes-it is not constant.

Battery ok? Bad wiring or connections between battery / alternator & rest of jeep.
Battery not OK? Bad wiring or connections between battery & alternator. Loose belt
Gauge is showing low / no charge, probably the first. If goes to no charge all the time, it's probably a blown (melted) fuse link, which is really just a smaller wire at one end, by battery or alternator. It could be melted now & some times making & then sometimes not making a connection.
Add: The squealing noise is the belt being not tight enough / old / glazed (got heated up from slipping, too smooth to grip). While slipping, the alternator is not turning fast enough to charge.
A new belt should fix the issue.
you have got the charging device looked at. The engine controller controls the charging of the battery. you're turning out to be something from the controller to a foul cord inflicting the situation.
Battery cables could be loose and or corroded.
