I need a laptop for high school among other things but my parents have took over the operation. They are looking at the acer one net lol because of the price. The computer doesn't do $hit for what I want to do.
I would like an i7 processor with 8GB+ RAM in my laptop. I like to play games and edit videos on a computer. I don't think they buy it. They are the sort of parents that would buy an LG rumor reflex and say it is as good as a galaxy s4.
For all I know, they will give me a 15 year old laptop.
They also procrastinate for years (literally, YEARS) until they just say no. If I don't have a computer. I will have to drop out. Plz help.
Update:Except that my parents will probably give me a 10 yer old laptop. They HATE video games. Almost to the point that they would kill computer programmers. They don't really even want me to play minecraft
Update 3:My parents don't reAlly let me have
Money

You should be grateful that they're buying you a laptop at all. Deal with whatever cheap laptop they get you; it'll suit all of your needs for school and will most likely run games between Minecraft and LoL standards just fine. Once you're older and get a job, you can buy yourself your own laptop for heavy gaming. Good laptops are REALLY expensive. Chances are, your parents aren't cheaping out on you because they're mean - it's because they honestly can't afford to get you the $2000 computer of your dreams.
Edit.
I don't care how much money you think your parents have or what they've bought before. You only know what you've seen from your own perspective. If your parents shelter you as much as it sounds they do, they wouldn't tell you if they were having financial issues. For all we know, they may even be trying their hardest to raise you the way normal kids live rather than how a spoiled brat lives. You don't know what's running through their minds. Either way, it's their money - not yours.
It sucks that your parents won't let you get mature games and dislike computers and games, but it's not a big deal; a lot of parents don't understand anything about games and think their kids must be slacking off of life if they play them. It's normal. You just have to live by their rules while you're with them. Once you have a job and live on your own, what they think won't matter. We all have to deal with it. Every kid goes through the same thing; just because your parents have the money itself to get you what you want doesn't mean your situation is any different or that they'll get you any more.
There's a difference in what you need for high school and what you need for gaming and video editing. A $200 laptop that's four years old is good enough for high school. If it runs microsoft office, an internet browser and doesn't crash, it's good enough for high school. And you really don't have to drop out without a laptop. If you really don't have acces to a computer, you can always go to libraries. Inconvenient, but possible. Don't make up excuses.
Back to what you actually want: a laptop. It sounds like you're going to have a hard time getting your parents to buy you a $1000 laptop, which is completely reasonable considering you don't need such an expensive laptop for high school. You could try to do something I did with my parents when I bought my laptop for college, which is the following:
Figure out the price a laptop that's good enough for high school would cost. Basically, anything that runs alright and will last you a few years. This includes average laptops with an i5 and 4GB of RAM. Such a laptop would coust around $400-$500. However, you want a faster laptop. So you get your parents to give the $500, and you add some of your own money so you can buy a laptop that you want.
This might not sound ideal, since you have to pay a bit by yourself, but this might be the only way your parents are going to let you buy an expensive laptop, while not having to pay everything yourself. Also try to convince them that a $400 laptop is never better than a $800 laptop. The more you pay for it, the better and the faster the laptop will be. This is almost allways the case with laptops, smartphones, desktops and other electronics. If they don't believe this, then tell them every little bit of hardware in a computer is widely available. Companies sell the faster better hardware for more, which means that the laptops made with faster and better hardware will cost more. If they still don't believe you, then your parents are just ignorant, unfortunately.
Now a bit more technical advice: You mentioned +8GB of RAM. Don't bother getting more than 8GB RAM. Laptops with 12 GB or 16 GB of RAM are probably very expensive, and video editing won't be that much faster with the extra ram. While an i7 processor really does help, any i5 processor will work as well when paired with a good graphics card.
Another thing to consider is battery life and laptop weight. High grade gaming laptops often have very poor battery life and weigh a lot. I have an 8 pound gaming laptop that lasts about 2 hours under heavy load. Having a $500 laptop might have been more convenient for college for me.
Well, if you don't have the money to buy an intel core i7 with 8GB of ram, then don't complain. It's not their job in life to provide you with the best things, it's there job to make sure you become a respectable, well-rounded, not spoiled young man. If they buy you a crappy computer, then that's life dude. Just eventually get a job and work for the one you want. That's the 'MERICAN WAY.
Don't drop out, just use the computers in your school, I am sure there is a computer room. To get the lap top you want try and get a part time job and tell your parents if they would match you dollar for dollar until you have enough money to get the one you want and tell them that it would be a better investment to get one with the storage you need for school (not games). It will work out, best of luck to you in the future.
