it may just be a weak signal where you keep your laptop try connecting close to where the other laptops connect if the signal on your laptop is the same as the others you've got your answer if it's still low you've got a faulty wifi board
at other peoples houses when you try to connect are you putting in their wifi wpa key (password) correctly it's case sensitive
Obviously your problem is a very weak signal.
1 you are out of range of the router which from what you are saying is not the problem
2 the Arial/antenna is broken or not connected to the wireless adapter. it goes from the adapter and around the inside of your screen frame.
3 The wireless adapter is faulty.
4 Should not be drivers but check.
5 If your Laptop is within warranty get it checked
First of all you shouldnt have bought a Acer. lol
anyway, try to see if you can update the drivers. You can goto Acers website and see if they recommend anything. Try to hit up and install all your windows updates. Worse come to worse you sounds like you just bought it, Return it as defective and buy a dell or lenovo. Or if you really want to stay with acer then it should be under warranty.
i think the wireless card is faulty, you could always use a usb wireless adapter to connect instead of the built in wireless or see if you can buy a replacement built in wireless card from somewhere like ebay, the cheapest and quickect option is to buy a usb wireless adapter
perhaps your computer is over heating causing the instantaneous card to stop at the same time as it really is warm. perhaps get a can of air and blow the dust out of your computer and it would want to run cooler so long because the fan is cooling the unit.
