Without tone of voice, body language, eye contact to clue people in to what you are saying?
For example, if you have a dry sense of humor, people don't see that little smirk to let them know it is clearly a joke.
Or if you asked a somewhat blunt question, in real life maybe your earnestness would take away some of the "sting", but online people think you're a jerk?
Do you feel like people miss your meaning on here very often?

I'm w/ Jason HCK. A lot of my humor is sarcastic or in the third person and it's viewed incorrectly. What are shots @ the ignorance and redundancy of the same bias questions over and over again can be taken as support, when in fact it's frustration and disbelief @ the immaturity or blind self-righteousness.
Yes! That is a great problem online! I moderate at several forum based websites. The Admin of most websites always recommends the use of emoticons (smilies) to help from being misunderstood. The written and the spoken word are two VERY different things. Now can we do something about those people who seem to purposely misunderstand your spoken words purposely to pick a fight with you? Huh? please?

P.S. People rarely misunderstand me, especially once you get to know me!
Yes...always. Loads of times I post questions about deep stuff cause I really, really need help - mentally. But 4/5 times people are just stupid and say "Loser", "Get a life!", or "Dumba-s liar, you can't trick me" and 1/10 I get a troll and 1/10 I get an answer that's between 2 words and 2 lines...I need advice here, I have no where else to go, and people just don't understand!
Sorry for the mini rant :(
I think strangers could misunderstand me, because I'm often quite sarcastic, or I joke about things. But my friends are the ones who count, and they know what I'm like.
I joke a lot. Half of my answers are sarcastic... people probably think I'm mean. BUT... that's why I usually make sure to add a "lol" after my post. Or a ":)"
