Even though Sparta was a whole separate culture from the Greeks of Athens they still shared many aspects of the Ancient Greek culture. They shared similar trade routes and crafting skills but the real differences between the two is how ones craft or profession was recognized by the culture socially. For example, in Sparta the rank of a soldier was considered to be one of the highest possible professions and was recognized to be just short of nobility to have a long-standing military lineage. In Athens culture wealth dictated social status and many soldiers enlisted into their army were at one time captured slaves.
Sparta was a warrior city state in which emphasis was placed on battlefield skill and cunning and military training. Contrary to popular belief they were well educated. It was said that when Spartan babies were born they were thrown in the lake to see if they could swim a be a worthy Spartan. One thing that stood out about Sparta is that a woman was allowed to own propert there and I believe this was unique for Greek city states.
