Have you gone to the doctor for them? There are some controller meds that could help in your situation as well as some specialized meds specifically for migraines. Also try talking that diagnosis over with the school, debilitating migraines is something they should be able to work around and understand, and help you with. Say you had a light sensitive issue, a dark room to do work in, or sound, work in the library while wearing headphones to muffle any noise...these are things that can be controlled but you must take that first step to see the Dr.
Best of luck.
Scare the headaches out of her? What idiot doctor is this???? What you need to do first is find a doctor who is able to prescribe the necessary treatment so she isn't in pain all the time. Is she on any preventives? Are they helping at all? What about abortive meds for when she DOES have migraines? Do they not work? Second, if you have had no luck finding an effective preventive/treatment, you need to treat this like any other chronic illness that affects her ability to attend school. You need to meet with her teachers and counselor to work out a plan that will keep her from falling too far behind in her school work, so she will get good grades, be able to pick up again when she returns to school, and graduate on time.
School is a general headache. TELL YOUR MOM TO TAKE YOU TO THE DOCTOR!
You know, I used to have Migraines that were brought on by tension headaches, caused by stress from school--- of course if you're in a high pressure situation (especially if you're failing) you would have migraines! I don't know what your mother is thinking.
Show this to a family member---http://www.healthcentral.com/migraine/c/8937/12001...
I hope this helps.
I'm so sorry to hear about this, I know how it feels--- both to be surrounded by douche bags who don't believe that you are hurting, and to have awful migraines in school.
Go to your general practitioner and tell them what you just told us. I suffered daily migraines and it turned out that my hypothyroidism was causing that. Now, I'm not saying that you for sure have this, since I can't diagnose you, but your migraines could very well be the cause of a disorder of some sort, as in my case. Good luck, feel better! xx
You can get rid of them once you understand where they come from. Both headaches and migraines get their start in the muscles in your neck. They get so tight that the message they send to the brain is so intense that when the brain receives it all it feels is pain, so we call it a headache, blaming the messenger rather than the sender. A migraine is just more muscles and pinched tighter. To get rid of a migraine you have to free up the muscles in your neck and back because of shared muscles there. Here's how to release them to free them up:
Neck
Put your hands alongside your head so your thumbs are on the front of the muscle under your ear and your fingers are on the back of the muscle behind your head. Squeeze your thumb and fingers together and hold. Relax your body. When your fingers and thumb touch, about two minutes, slowly lower your head as far as you can, release the pressure but hold your neck lowered for another 30 seconds. If any pain remains repeat the release.
Back:
(do from a sitting position)
Place your left hand on your left leg next to your body. Place your right hand over your left shoulder, fingers over the back and the palm in the front and firmly press on them and hold. After 30 seconds slowly lower your body forward and to the outside of your left leg, keeping your left arm fairly straight as you do. When you reach your lap remain there for another 10 seconds, release the pressure but rest there for another 30 seconds. Then reverse your hand positions and do your right side.
For best results w/both, relax your body first by taking a deep breath and exhaling then remain this relaxed.
There is no known medical cure for migraine headaches, and often migraine sufferers become discouraged when treatments do not rectify the problem. Doctors often prescribe a combination of medications such as abortive and preventative drugs, to try and prevent the migraine before it begins or lessen the pain when a migraine strikes.
Abortive medications will stop the headache and may prevent the recurrence of symptoms. They should be taken at the first indication of a migraine headache. Over-the-counter medications include Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAID’s) such as ibuprofen, ketoprofen, and naproxen as well as aspirin.
Prescribed medications include ergotamine, a vasoconstrictor, and serotonin receptor agonists. Preventive medication is specifically geared towards people who suffer from recurrent migraines, experiencing at least one a week, and includes prescription medication such as beta-blockers, anti-depressants, anti-convulsants and calcium channel blockers.
Natural Remedies
Herbal and homeopathic remedies can offer an effective natural solution and can be of assistance in alleviating the painful and discomforting symptoms of a migraine. Herbs such as Tanecetum parthenium (Feverfew), Silybum marianus (Milk Thistle) & Passiflora Incarnata (Passionflower) are extremely beneficial in helping to soothe the recurrence of pounding headaches. In addition, studies have suggested that the herb Feverfew, when used regularly, can help to eliminate or greatly reduce the frequency and severity of headaches and migraines.
In taking a holistic view of your health, you can address many factors that contribute to optimal physical, mental and emotional well-being. Natural and herbal remedies can be used to help address the root causes of the ailment and not just the symptoms.
Together, these 3 herbs can:
- Prevent migraines and chronic headaches, including cluster headaches
- Support the body in it’s natural ability to maintain equilibrium in the mind and nervous system
- Stop tension headaches before they start
- Promote routine muscle health and discourage common tension
- Encourage easy movement of joints and muscles, relieves symptoms of arthritis
- Support liver functioning and the routine elimination of waste from the body
- Help the body to ‘unwind’ and relax, and reduce anxiety and tension
For routine / recurring headaches, homeopathic ingredients like China (12C), Nux vom, Chamomilla, Kali phos and Mag phos, when taken togethercan:
- Relieve acute headaches associated with stress, tension and fatigue
- Alleviate a ‘heavy’ feeling in the head
- Reduce common pounding sensations
- Support blood circulation and oxygenation for brain and nervous system health
