mike smith on zenyatta vs. Calvin borel on Rachel Alexandra in the breeds cup ladies classic?
mike smith on zenyatta vs. Calvin borel on Rachel Alexandra in the breeds cup ladies classic? who would win? (this race is not planed to happen just a what do you think question?
Zenyatta would win, hands down. Owner of Rachel won't come out for the Breeders Cup, he knows what the outcome would be. This is the most important race of the year that in itself speaks volumes.
Not only are Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta the leading female racehorses, they sit atop the NTRA poll at one and two, respectively.
I would very much like to see a race between the two of them. However, it may never happen. Finding that race this year will be extremely difficult to accomplish. Zenyatta, undefeated in 11 career starts, has just one race outside of California and Jess Jackson has already made it clear that his filly will go nowhere near a synthetic 'plastic' track. As used in The Breeder's Cup.
The fact that the ladies have very different running styles also makes a match-up intriguing. Rachel Alexandra is a speed horse who normally is on the lead, and Zenyatta comes from off the pace, sometimes by double-digit lengths, and wins fairly close finishes. Should the two meet in a race Zenyatta would have to come and get 'Rachel'. Zenyatta too, has an edge because she is older. Love both!
Since there is no chance that these two great thoroughbreds are likely to ever meet in competition, I'll look forward to their next individual starts... :)
This will def. generate revenue, I'm a bettting man I would put my money on Rachel Alexandra beacuse Zenyatta is the house favorite so to put money on Zenyatta would in essence you'll lose money simliar to Big Brown and one of the triple crown races when he lost to Da-Tara he was looking at 3:1 favorite which means for every three dollars you put on Big Brown or Zenyatta, you would get a return of a dollar. Going into this historical race if they can make it happen Zenyatta would be the house favorite but Rachel Alexandra she will have anoutstanding chance to win, and not only that but evn if she was to place or show you would still get return Zenyatta on the other hand you just envy the owner because uh she's perfect.
Zenyatta would probably have an edge being a synthetic surface horse - but hard to speculate, I think Rachel Alexandra would beat her handily on dirt or slop and overall is better, but on synthetics who knows.
Rachel Alexandra's Beyer Speed Figure in the Haskell was 116 - the highest of the year as she beat colts once again; hard to make a case against her, imho.
And why not run them in the regular Breeders Cup Classic, against colts, obviously Rachel is that good, see who comes out of the Saratoga meeting smelling like a rose too.
First of all, I think that Jess Jackson's being a bit unreasonable about the Rachel not going on the synthetic thing. The filly has won a race on a synthetic track and it seems unreasonable to throw out the biggest race of the year for fear that the filly won't like the surface... they could at least try to run a prep race in California or at Keeneland or something to find out if the filly likes the track. It looks like they're trying their best to avoid facing Zenyatta and they have a legitimate fear of facing that mare because she is a beast.
Rachel's Haskell yesterday was quite impressive. None of those colts could keep up with her and the closers didn't make any late progress. However, the best closer in the race was Summer Bird and Kent Desormeaux didn't let him run his normal race... it's pretty hard to run like a closer when your jockey pushes you to be on the pace in the early part of the race. I think it's kinda stupid to waste all your horse's energy on staying near the pace so he has nothing left for the stretch run. Mike Smith wouldn't make that mistake with Zenyatta.
Zenyatta faced a tough speed horse last year in Hystericalady and she still drove past her in the stretch just as easily as she's done with any other horse. I think that Zenyatta will have to make her move earlier in the race (around the half mile pole), but I don't see any reason that she won't run by Rachel in the final furlong. Rachel is obviously the toughest horse that Zenyatta will ever face and Zenyatta is obviously the toughest horse that Rachel will ever face. I personally think that Zenyatta's better. I hope we get to see the two superfillies race each other this year, but it looks like the Mosses are going to have to go east to make it happen.
This is a tough question, if the pace is fast I would lean towards Zenyatta, but then again once Rachal is in the lead, I don't believe any horse can catch her. I would really like to see this race fold out, that would be one heck of a race.
theyre both awesome. who knows who would win really. if i had to choose id say that RA could maybe beat Zenyatta on dirt. it would be an awesome race. on synthetic Zenyatta has a serious advantage. after last years Curlin fiasco i would be very hesitant to run RA on that crap too. please never give California another Breeders Cup till they switch back to dirt. these two have to face each other somehow. the racing world deserves it.

Well Rachel Alexandra For 3 reasons
1) She will be on the front end leaving Zenyatta to chase her down
2) She will also be spotted 4 or 5 pounds b/c she is 3 and Zenyatta is 5
3) the race is only 1 1/8 mile so the stretch wouldn't be that long giving zenyatta and tough task running down Rachel in a short stretch
BTW Rachel Has run on synthetics at 2 and won so it wouldn't be that new to her
