Question to Mitsubishi technician.
Outlander 2006, 2005.
I understand, it is 4G69.
Just about lost hope to find a SURE way to find out if an engine is an Interference Engine or not...
for example, here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mitsubishi_Sirius_eng... it says yeas, and here: http://www.preferredcomponents.com/mitsubishi.php - not (no star)
Additional info: using SynLube oil (synthetic, potentially increasing service intervals, including timing belt change), unusual driving pattern aimed to lower gas usage, engine load, wear and tear. (For example, braking pads worn ~50% @ >70K, MPG stable > 26-27 MPG)
So, if no danger - I would drive till timing belt breaks, as there are reasons to expect 1,5-2 times of a usual life for it. But who would risk it with an Interference Engine?!

When the TBelt breaks, it'll cost you $2500 to fix. Wanna chance it???
Have read the 2007-2009 Outlander V-6 is non interference but not the 2010 and newer .
same as marks, plus throw it in the extra 30 bucks and an extra hour of work for the water pump, best bet is the pull ur motor and tranny and change all ur 60k or less matience parts and drive it like that, all ur parts will make it run 26-27mpg or more the only reason u'd get less mileage is from either racing it around all the time or from driving with old parts, my stealth is rated at like 22+mpg and i get average of 33mpg with my work and i dont drive it like that, my fluids are royal purple and dont F up my car, try it
and if u want good mileage install iridium plugs and switch over to premium fuel.
i have the 6g Series in the montero that is a non interference but with newer engines i wouldn't risk it or i would call the dealership and ask them, but i wouldn't risk it
