I was recently approved for an apartment and told that my deposit would be $450.. then I was called today to only be informed I was "misinformed" and the deposit will actually be $900.. now I don't have enough for the apartment and will be left homeless. Can they legally do this to me?

Unless you have the original amount in writing signed by them---they can certainly change the terms..Try to work something out with them...One months rent is the usual standard for a Security depoist.
sadly, yes, if you have not signed the lease, they can. If you have a signed lease, they cannot until the lease expires. If you have a signed month-to-month, the deposit can be raised with the proper 30-or-60-day notice, but they cannot change the agreement unilaterally, even though you were misinformed initially.
Yes, they can do this, since they have informed you ahead of signing a lease. Errors are made every day all over the nation. People ARE allowed to correct errors.
Probably.
Without it being in writing, not much you can do.
Try talking to them, and see if they can work with you.
Maybe you should look at some place else.
