I just got a brand new scooter yesterday and have not started it up yet. I was looking on YouTube and it says to put some kind of fluid either in the tank or spray starter fluid on the carb. Also, it looks as if there is oil in the engine. I don't know if it's oil they put in for shipping or whatever. How do I go about doing this the proper way?

do not forget to check the break fluid also after all it is more important to stop than go.
New Scooter? Go Riding! It's almost sure all you have to do check all the fluid levels. Add gas and crank until it starts. No one is going to put some crazy shipping oil into their motor. the type of fluid you use, depends on the cimate of where the scooter is.
If you don't know how to even start the thing, what are your riding skills like?
Don't start it, don't take it out on the road. You will just get run over. Get rid of it and just catch a bus
check owner manual before Utube. helpful to know ACTUAL scooter make, model year. as for spraying something in carb? Maybe WD40, sometimes used after winter storage in Wsiconsin, lubes cylinder, rings without removing spark plugs. Have you gone through MSF or other riding safety course?- helpful to keep down road rash. You really need to know actual scooter details and read the manual--a Chilton manual for the model may be useful if nothing else. get a 6 pack of beer and go to scooter shop-offer to service mechanic and whimper, beg for basic lessons and take notes.
You don't need to spray anything into it unless they were talking about spraying something like a pre-lube into the intake. I have never heard of that, I just made that up.
Check the oil levels, gasoline level, battery for a full charge then hit the starter button.
Good luck, you have a long road ahead.
Don't use starting fluid on a new engine!
Read your owner's manual and follow the manufacturer's suggestion on how to start the engine!!
It makes a difference if it's 2 stroke or 4 stroke. Call the service department that sold you the scooter and ask them how the engine was prepped- or not prepped. Watch the youtube again, and pay attention this time to learn what fluid they mentioned.
Since you haven't told us the brand or model of scooter you have, why would we know?? I've bought four new bikes. One of which was a scooter, and the other three were motorcycles. If your dealer did not explain this to you, surely it is in your owners manual. Why would you be looking for this information thru u-tube?? Is this what your dealer told you to do??
If you won't read the manual then you won't bother to read the answers.
