Those born in the late '70's, 80's, and early '90's remember what Nickelodeon was really like back in the day, but when and why did it go wrong. I'm creating a poll to see what you Yahoo!Answerers think. I believe two theories: The Dill Pickle Theory-When Dill became a character on "Rugrats" the Golden Age ended and The SpongeBob Theory-Self explanatory (SB aired in 1999). what do you think?

I was born in 88 and I was was a huge fan of Nickeloden growing up. I loved Rugrats, Doug, Rocko's Modern Life, Loony Tunes, Are you afraid fi the Dark, Hey Arnold, and some of the game shows. By the way I hate SpongeBob
I have to agree with what's already been posted. I used to watch All That, Legends of the Hidden Temple, Aah! Real Monsters, Hey Arnold, Rugrats, and so many other great shows. I don't really watch Nickelodeon today so I don't know what the shows are like, but I can't imagine that The Naked Brothers Band, and Zoey 101 are nearly as good as the shows listed above.
I believe the Golden age was when Nickelodeon had great shows. Like All That, Hey Arnold, and so fourth. The bad day is now hen there is the crappy shows like Mighty B and iCarly. All shows stink now (except for SpongeBob and Back at the Barnyard)
I hope they have one good show that will make them shoot straight up.
This is no were as bad as the Golden and Darken ages of Disney Channel. The Golden Age being the time of Even Steven's and Boy Meets World and the Dark age being now with crap like The Suite Life and Hanna Montana.
I guess I watch to much TV :)
You can set the dividing line at 1994 (longtime Nickelodeon VP Geraldine "Gerry" Laybourne left for a similar job at Lifetime and programming and creative changes under her replacement, Herb Scannell began in earnest; Nicktoon episodes were briefly seen in local syndication until 1996 when Scannell took them out of the syndication maket a la Cartoon Network's "exclusivity" with the Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies and Hanna-Barbera libraries)...
Nickelodeon began it's long descent into the shark's mouth with "The Rugrats Movie" (and its boutique Nickelodeon Movies label at Paramount Pictures)...it continued with Klasky-Csupo practically grinding out similarly-looking dreck, the eventual shift in its' target audience and emphasis on the Nickelodeon brand name--quality of the programming be damned.
Oh hell convinced i recognize they nonetheless instruct like Sabrina the teenage witch and Kenan and kel alongside with new stuff like iCarly and Zoey one hundred and one yet i imagine it truly is going to have its own channel alongside with stuff like CatDog, whats up Arnold, Ren and Stimpy... New T.V. sucks
