no sound in windows xp?
i turned on my compuer(dell) this morning and a new update for java was available so i installed it. after that i went to youtube and tried wathing a video and there was no sound
things i have tried---
-i replaced the sound card (still no sound)
-i went back to an older java (still no sound)
-updated all of my sound drivers (still no sound
-i tried Microsoft fix it (still no sound)
- and no its not muted
please help
Update:i didn't find any errors in device manager...it says my sound card is working properly. And i have used like 15 different speakers and headphones and still no luck

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your machine prior to this issue?
In order to diagnose the issue, you may check in device manager if there is any error code for sound card.
a. Type ‘devmgmt.msc’ in start search box and hit Enter.
b. In device manager, expand the sound drivers listed in the device list.
c. Double click on sound card driver & check the information in device status.
d. Post back if you find any error code
Look in Device Manager (I assume you know how to get to this if you are replacing components.. if not, google it) for any devices that have icons next to them (driver / hardware issues). If you see your sound card listed and device manager says it's working properly, then right click your sound icon in the task bar and in the options, make sure the correct playback/output device is set! Check options here to make sure that all the volume levels are set and none are muted. If still not working, try a different pair of headphones or speakers.
The only thing you did not mention is the sound control in the control panel. However, last time that happened I pulled my hair out going through all the possibilities. That little switch on the keyboard was turned off.

Use ctrl alt del to bring up the task manager and in there check the the sound services are running.
If they are not start them.
