There a quite some dialects in Nordrhein-Westfalen, belonging to the West Low German/Low Saxon and Franconian dialect group. Krefeld is in the South Lower Franconian zone. As long as they don't speak those dialects, there's not much of an accent to deal with. I never had difficulties with the German I learned in school in Belgium.
