Skyrim is great with the graphics side, but I think Oblivion is a better game overall. The gameplay in Oblivion is a lot better in my opinion, but I am not going to take the time to explain why, sorry. The Oblivion graphics are like the graphics on Fallout 3 and New Vegas. In fact, Fallout 3 and New Vegas run on the same engine as Oblivion, which is one of the main reasons I like those three games so much.
Another bit of information you might find useful. I believe Bethesda is currently working on another project, so we will probably see Fallout 4 in the near future. There are rumors, of course, but many think the game is going to be like Skyrim. Ugh!
Skyrim is much better when u just consider graphics. But Oblivion beats skyrim on depth of gameplay.
Both games are very similar in game mechanics.
I tend toward Oblivion as the better game in my personal opinion. Part of that opinion is due to nostalgia...Oblivion was my first Elder Scrolls game. But I enjoy the more colourful aspects of Oblivion. Skyrim is drab and dreary for the most part. I also enjoyed Oblivion's characters more...Like the Grey Fox for example...much more depth.
For sheer graphics however, nothing beats Skyrim. With certain lighting and effects mods along with the hi-res texture packs, the game looks almost like an acted movie.
