paycheck received in december?
I own a small service business (S corporation) and I have just received a check (amount just shy of $10,000) from my client. I heard that businesses are allowed to report their last minute earnings (December) in January. Is this true?

No. The date on the check will drive the 1099 that your client will issue. If you wanted to delay this receipt you should have asked your client to issue it after the first of the year.
