I have had a black guinea pig named Kenny since last july i bought him from petsmart. Today I bought a new white one named him kyle. Both were advertised as males (i dont want any babies) well anyway my black one is doing the low pur and backing its butt to the new one kinda like "come and get it daddy o" and i read that the low purr is a arousal thing.
I've looked up how to tell them apart and in all honesty i still cant tell a male from a female. Has anyone ever had a wrong gender from a pet store? does anyone know if this is just normal behavior? I'm not to worried right now I will be calling the vet to get them both sexed but until then does anyone have some feedback?
Who knows maybe my kenny just likes other males lol we dont judge here ;) Thanks in advanced

Though most of the time Petco and Petsmart only sell same sex animals, occasionally they make mistakes and you end up with a pregnant one, like I did.I've even had these employees ask me to show them how to sex their animals.I have raised 9 piggies,9 rats and about 14 hamsters and have been able to accurately sex every single one of them.Due to their size,it's very east to sex guinea pigs. Here's how you do it:hold them so you can view their genitals. Both sexes will have a circle with a Y in the middle. The males have this Y shape, plus a little something extra that often looks like a small piece of rice poking out the Y.If you are still confused, gently press on the males' abdomen, you should see it pop out.As far as this purring you describe,Kenny is clearly showing Kyle who's boss.Don't be surprised if there is some scuffling for a while,he's establishing the pecking order, that's normal. My adult males used to "initiate" the new males by making them clean the older guys butts~seriously!
BTW,I absolutely LOVE their names.Cute!
No, they have got separate, marked pens. Also, which you can ask to store companion to sex it for you. If he/she will not or doesn't know how, you could wish to be aware of. Here ya go: women (sows): The sows most commonly have a delicate swelling over their genital field. Generally, it may be bumpy watching, making you think it probably a male! In case you gently section the genital opening, on a sow, a "Y" formed opening should appear. Males (boars): Press gently just above the genital area. If it is a male, you will have to be competent to make the penis slowly extrude. Do not be fooled by means of appearances. Usually, it doesn't appear like there is a penis there at all! Mainly in heavy, older men, the penis may also be "tucked away" in folds of dermis, looking totally like a feminine! You will have to try to get the penis to ease out. Sizzling TIP! If it's a male, which you could traditionally suppose the internal part of the shaft (which is beneath the epidermis) within the identical discipline--just above the genitals -- by way of very gently urgent and rubbing your finger over that field. You're going to suppose a "ridge" just above the penis. Additionally, if there's a pucker or protrusion of epidermis at the high of the genital discipline, then that could be a just right indication that there is a penis tucked away beneath. But, be certain to get it to extrude to verify it. Young men have a donut shape round their rectum the place their testicles are.
