If I recall, tepig is decent and useful against most of the gym leaders. Just be careful, as his dual fire/fighting type on his final evolution makes him pretty vulnerable later on in the game.
Personally I like Tepig :D He's a fire Pokemon and it's much better in my opinion. His tackles are a little more powerful and when he learns ember it's much easier!(Especially against grass types) :D
if you start oshawott who's the water he has an epic 3rd Evolution learns shell blade in my opinion the best move and then catch a flying type at start like most people do to beat your rivel

One does not simply pick a "best" starter Pokemon
