Man, I had the same problem. I grew up in a VERY Christian household. My dad was a preacher. After awhile, I finally decided to tell my parents I was an atheist. This was after attending church every sunday of my entire life and participating in every church function. My parents couldn't believe it, they told everyone in the neighborhood and the church, and pretty much everyone though I was the devil child. Seriously. Ironically, my dad was the most accepting of them all. I just had to live with it, because it was impossible to explain myself to them. They just wouldn't listen. When possible, I moved the h*** out of there.
Just try sitting down, and explaining your reasoning with them I guess. Not everyone is a believer, but sometimes non-believers become believers after witnessing something or going through a very tough time.
Explain to them you just don't believe right now, and let them know you'll leave the door open to possibilites (even if you really arent) this may help settle their mind a bit. Say that you would like the time to figure things out for yourself, verse taking on other peoples perspective. If that fails, go talk to a priest, and have the priest explain this to them. A true priest wont pass judgment, and they will respect others, so he would be able to explain to your parents how you are feeling, and hopefullly how to get them to accept it.
WOW before you even say anything you should educate yourself about goth's.
So she is stereotyping you that you have the devil inside of you because you are atheist.
And you are stereotyping us goth's with Satanist?
WTF?
You obviously do not know anything about goth's.
I do not know ONE goth who is satanic.
I am catholic and always have been.
I go to church and even the priest knows me by name.
You are just doing the same thing your mom is doing.
