Been having high blood pressures as high as 162/101 that go down to around 140s/80s with rest. My doc ordered a 24 hour urine sample which came back with 176 protien in 24 hours, but there was no protien in the dipstick analysis at the office... I am 31 weeks pregnant currently. Is it likely that I will develop pre eclampsia with these numbers? Have scheduled weekly dr. appointments now to moniter this, but would like to know what my chances are of the protein increasing... Dr said protein is usually 300 in 24 hours if you have pre eclampsia and am currently losing 176.

it can happen however doesnt mean it will. I spilled glucose thoughtout my pregnancy. it was high every appointment since the beginning of my second trimester. they kept close eye on it, but still worried them a bit. so they did a blood sugar test and everytime but once it came back normal & passed the glucose test. You could just be spilling protein and may look like something bad but really be nothing. but if you start to swell above the waist, have high blood pressure constantly and start spilling more protein then you are now, then i'd worry about the possibility.
There are a huge number of things that can cause protein in the urine, including infection in the urinary tract......NOTHING youve written indicates that youve developed or will develop pre eclampsia.
If you have no swelling in your face and your BP goes down with rest, youre fine and should continue to be, the monitoring is just precautionary.
To give you an idea, I developed pre eclampsia at 29 weeks......my face was like a full moon, my wrists were nearly 3 times their normal size, my BP was 220/160 AT REST. I also had gestational diabetes (5 insulin injections/day) and my membranes ruptured at 31 weeks, my daughter was born, perfectly healthy at 32 weeks and is now 16 years old........your biggest risk factor at the moment is the unnecessary stress that you are putting yourself through.
Calm down and try to relax. All this stress is pushing your BP up, which wont cause pre-eclampsia, but WILL none the less cause problems and may have the end result of you needing to take BP meds during your pregnancy, something you want to avoid if you can.......stop obsessing over your protein levels......massively high levels, which you dont have, can indicate problems with your kidneys.....thats why protein levels are tested when pre-eclampsia is suspected, but that doesnt mean that you need to stress about it. Accept that your doctor is just being careful.
Extra protein to your urine could be a signal of a UTI, kidney damage, or unique other problems. Later for your being pregnant, it can also be a sign of preeclampsia if it can be accompanied by high blood pressure. If you have protein in your urine but your blood strain is natural, your sample shall be sent to the lab for a culture to look whether you've a UTI.
Go back to the Dr and get retested. You can follow his suggestions
