Hi, I am 17 and I have friends who uses protein shakes/ powder and drinks them every day, around 2-3 or 4 bottles a day and they get buff. I've seen their physical change since last year, like they got buff and a lot bigger. I recently join the gym with them and wanted to get big too, but I have a few questions on protein shakes/powders.
1) Are protein shakes steroids? Do all protein shakes or some protein shakes contain ingredients that are in steroids?
2) I did some research online and some said some protein brands contains mercury. Would anyone know brands that are more safe than others, meaning it doesn't contain mercury?
3) are supplements the same as protein shakes?
4) What is the difference between protein shakes that contains whey protein and without whey proteins?
5) Is taking a bottle or a few bottles of protein shakes increase my height and weight? And yes, I will definitely do stretches to increase my growth. I also do understand there are many factors to my maximum height, but with protein shakes help a bit?
6) what brand of protein shakes contains the least harmful ingredients to our body? Because I heard that some brand contains a lot of harmful ingredients that can be harmful to our body failure in the long run. Any suggestions to safer brands? And for my personal safety, I am not planning to over use protein shakes, but only a few times a week if needed.
7) what are creatine? Are they bad for you? I heard that too much or creatine is bad. Any brands that doesn't contain this type of ingredients and any other "bad" ingredients so that it wouldn't hurt my body in the long and or short run?
I am planning to get bigger, but not to a degree like as in rapid fast. I want to probably intake a bottle a day or 3-4 times a week. Because sometimes I forget to eat certain meals, or my meals doesn't contain enough proteins. So I am thinking of just consuming it, to a degree that isn't harmful or too much into my body. I just wanted to get slightly bigger and not rapidly change big. And yes, I probably go to the gym a few times a week along with protein shakes.
Thank you

1) No, they're perfectly fine and there is nothing wrong with them.
2) All brands have gone through testing and are all perfectly safe to use, I recommend maxi muscle based on my own results.

4) most protein shakes contain whey protein and they give better results
5) there is no evidence to suggest that it will increase your height but as it is providing you with protein it will encourage growth.
6) there aren't any protein shakes that will harm your body with normal use, I wouldn't recommend using most of them more than once a day.
7) creating is very good for building muscle, it provides a lot of protein which is what you need.
I recommend having a protein shake after your workouts or with an evening meal.
All you need to know is any form of supplement, shakes, powders, pills, or straight steroids, are bad for your body and health... plain and simple.
Most shakes and powders have steroids in them, a basic form but it's still the same crap, and plenty of the foods we eat have mercury, especially fish, so there's really no avoiding it.
Whey protein is just another protein, nothing more to it but it's messed with so I don't really know if it's all that healthy though some studies say it is and isn't... I don't really care.
Protein is a basic building block to life and growth so of course it's important in height, but only natural protein is good for you. Steroids will stunt your growth, create fake water weight muscle that will fade, and harm your body in numerous ways.
NO shakes or pills are good for your body, none. Not, "oh well one is a little less dangerous..." no, they're all dangerous and stupid choices in any form of body inhancement.
As for creatine, it's just another naturally occuring substance in life. It's not bad for you to naturally ingest but if you concentrate it and use it frequently it can harm you.
Your moron friends will have health troubles, kidney failure, heart complications, weakened muscles and bones, become sterile, lower oxygen flow throughout the body if the heart is even mildly effected... Have some common sense, create real muscle with natural health food and that muscle will stay with you for a long time, and be more effective than your friend's.
I would not recommend, you can do it if you want fat consuming natural protein and exercise. Consumption of this product you mention is harmful to health.
