ok call me a retard but i was applying new thermal paste and when i was putting the HS back on i didnt click it correctly into place(didnt realise tht at the time). When i had logged on to look at the temps they had reached the 90's on speed fan i nearly had a heart attack and turned of my computer in an instance. Then i opened my case and clicked the right corener peg into place and I triple checked tht the HS was on properly and booted up now my temps are pretty much back to normal at idle.
My question is whether or not duing that instance, which lasted about 2 mins, was my cpu damaged at all? Thanks for you help!
Update:lol yeh i might of been slightly exaggerating about the heart attack. I also ran prime 95 torture test for 30 mins and thankfully it found no errors or warnings. Thanks alot for the help people!

Nope your CPU wasnt damaged. Todays CPU's have a VERY high resistance against heat but that doesnt mean you can run a CPU at 98C all the time because it will die eventually. So if your CPU still works, there's no way its damaged
Your CPU wouldn't be damaged. I had my e6400 shoot up to 90C once when I installed a new PSU. One of the wires blocked the fan from spinning, and temps shot up (eh, my bad!). Luckily, I caught it was I always look at temps when I boot, and three months later, no problems with my CPU. Still running strong.
So calm down, you can still kick some butt on your Q6600 :)
As for damage to your heart, well, you might want to dial down the stress from now on ;)
If you caught it in 2 mins like you say it shouldn't have done any real damage besides nearly giving you a heart attack. You should be fine.
