Clean your sandwich maker thoroughly - try not to rub off the non-stick coating.
when you're making a sandwich - butter the outside of the sandwich before you pack it into the machine and close the top down.
While the inside of the sandwich is cooking, the butter on the outside of the sandwich is acting as a lubricant - to allow you to get the sandwich out without welding itself to the toasting surface.
Keep an eye on the sandwich maker as it's toasting your sandwich - be aware for any smells of burning. Either remove your sandwich, or turn your sealed-sandwich over inside the toaster before it burns.
Perhaps you need to remove your sandwich sooner.
