I am a Green Card holder and my husband and I would like to go visit Spain this coming Thanksgiving. We would like to book the package from EuropeanDestinations.com. Requirements for the visa include insurance, hotel reservation and flight confirmation. However, the website won't really give me the confirmation UNLESS I book it, which means, I pay for the package.
My question is: do I really need to pay for the whole thing for the visa application?
I am just worried about this because if the application gets denied, I will hardly get any of my back. I don't think the flights are going to be refundable and I will incur penalties for the hotel reservations. And of course, no trip. It's so much of a loss.
If there's anyone who had applied for Schengen visa at the Spanish Consulate General in NYC, I hope you reply :)

Just apply for the visa now, then you have it.
