to an extent, i know i went to a private catholic school for 10 years (PreK to 8th grade) in a wealthy area and my family didnt have much money (after paying that ridiculous tuition) and i think that had we been able to wear whatever we wanted, there would have been a lot of pressure to keep uup with the latest fashions. I would have had a horrible time if I was the only one in hand me downs.... When kids wear uniforms everyone is equal.
Yes because it standardizes clothing, discourages showing off with more expensive branded clothes, and controls the way students dress preventing them from wearing indecent styles. I know of schools actually standardizing school supplies (i.e. notebooks, pens, bags -- no branded supplies only generic school logo) to discourage showing off and envy among students.
it really didnt change much here at the school that my kids attend.they still pick on each other about other things.here its the shoes, because they can wear anykind except flipflops,so if they dont come from the mall they pick on them about that.

The uniforms are there to avoid unnecessary spending for new clothes. It also does away with showing off in school.
Sometimes, it can also help with the feeling of being part of a group for the children.
