my children's school has decided to ban chocolate/cakes/sweet/crisps/biscuits from packed lunches for healthy eating. my children normally have 2 fruit/veg/ wholemeal roll with ham/cheese/chicken and a yogurt. Occasionally ( once or twice a month) they get crisps or home made cake/cookies.
But children with school dinners are allowed cakes with ice-cream, chocolate biscuits on 10 out of every 15 days.
So im am sending my children in with the same dessert as school dinners - am I right or wrong to feel banning them from packed lunches but not school dinners in wrong?
(and school dinners would cost £40pw for my 3 children - so not an option)

Your school has likely planned a lower-fat, 'more healthy' chocolate cake or something. Maybe they're afraid of nuts. (yeah, they're nuts, but I mean peanuts and tree nuts, maybe there's a child who's allergic, so they only make sure their things are nut-free, but are afraid parents would send non-nut-free...)
You're welcome to your feelings, I hate it when schools limit things like this, but there probably are reasons. And I wouldn't send in your kids with the same dessert, ask the school before making that choice, because if you break their rules they may just start feeding them school lunch and tossing what you pack and then charging you.

my friend is a primary school teacher and they do exactly the same thing at her school. (as i mum-to-be i couldn't believe it) they will give the kids a sweet treat if they are having a school meal but if they are caught with anything like a small kitkat or a freddo they will have it taken off them. i agree with the school wanting to promote the whole healthy eating however they are going about it in the wrong way as far as im concerned. when i was a kid i preferred packed lunches i would have basically the same as your giving your children (with the occasional mini choc bar or pack of 20p crisps, maybe if my mum was really pushing the boat out a panda pop lol ) and neither myself or my brother have ever been overweight or had bad teeth! your obviously a responsible parent and taking your childrens health seriously but not being Nazi strict about it, so if i was you id be telling the school to loosen up a bit at the next PTA meeting concerning packed lunches. a chocolate bar and a packet of crisps a few times a month isn't going to kill anyone.
Understand the many premises behind The Paleo Diet and that will help guide you toward living a complete Paleo Diet lifestyle. Learn here https://tr.im/KcpLb
For breakfast, make an easy omelet. Peppers, mushrooms, and broccoli in olive oil; add omega-3-enriched or free-range eggs and diced turkey or chicken breast.
Paleo lunches are easy. At the beginning of the week, make a huge salad with anything you like. A good starting point can be mixed greens, spinach, radishes, bell peppers, cucumbers, carrots, avocadoes, walnuts, almonds and sliced apples or pears.
For dinner, try spaghetti squash as a substitute for any pasta recipe. Top with pesto, marinara and meatballs. Roasted beets and their greens make a great side dish for pork.
Is there a language issue here and lunch and dinner are the same thing? Or are you saying in the UK you pack your kids lunch and then after school they stick around and have dinner? Seems strange.
But yes, you're right. If they are not following their own policies then they are hypocrites.
to be honest your packed lunches sound a lot more healthy than some of the school lunches you see on tv. as far as the treat snacks go it does seem unfair to allow one set of children treats but not the other. have you spoken to the school about this, if not I would definitely have a word. good luck x
Of course, it doesn't make any sense! My child's school bans soda (Coke, Sprite, etc) in packed lunches, yet the school sells soda at their concession stand for $1.75! That doesn't make any sense, either...
If the school doesn't want to see chocolate/cakes/sweets etc in the children's packed lunches, these items shouldn't be served with school lunches, either. If they don't want the kids to bring sodas to school, the school shouldn't sell them. If these items are not healthy in packed lunches, they are not healthy in school lunches either. Of course, everybody knows that, so my guess is that the school is trying drum up business for their paid school lunches/concession stand.
pack lunches, even though they banned it ( which is good because it helps with healthy eating ) school dinner food is nearly always horrible ( i should know im in my last year at school and iv never had school dinners because everyone never eats it because of what its like, and iv been to 4 differant schools and always the same horrible dinners :/ goodluck xx
I definitely prefer fruit and vegetables more. I don't like all the acid in many fruits.
