I had this happen to me and I was told it was high blood pressure in my sight and I also heard sometimes it is a symptom of anemia. You should ask your doctor and if it is happening frequently call them immediately.

My blood pressure is always fine and I occasionally get these spots too - usually when I have stood up though.

It sounds like an optical migraine. You should bring it up to your doctor on your next visit or call the nurse to see what she thinks.
