I live in London and got diagnosed with swine flu on monday!
I actually went into work and was advised by the owner of the company to go home!
We do not get paid sick pay AT ALL!!! which is in our contract!
I am only 19 but live on my own so to lose a weeks money just before christmas is going to kill me.......I was just wondering if I was to get a doctors note would my employer BY LAW have to pay me for being off sick?
thank you.

Sorry there is no law that says you are to be compensated for being sick. That would be like having an emergency appendicitis and asking that you be paid for recovery time.
Just because your employer won't let you work until you are well does not mean that he is responsible for your pay. He is protecting his other employee's by making you stay away until you are healthy to work without causing harm to others.
If you need extra money to help the deficit you could think about house cleaning or childcare for a few nights or weekends to re-coop the lost income. Also allot of stores hire for holiday help and they don't want a long term employee. You could possibly get a weekend job.
Best of luck hope you feel better soon
