The largest of those "soy & estrogen & sperm" studies was conducted with only 99 men who had visited a fertility clinic over the course of six years. They were asked to fill out a survey which asked them about the amounts of soy foods they had eaten over the previous three months.
Such "small sample survey research" is notorious for slanted results, due to participants attempting to provide the "right" answers, and the unlikelihood that anyone could accurately provide details for what they ate three months ago.
Such results could only be considered "inconclusive" and "indicating the need for further study," especially considering the dozens of studies conducted previously which found no correlation whatsoever.
The financing of most "anti-soy" research has been traced to the meat industry, which is ironic when one considers that the number one ingredient in cattle feed is soybeans, and per ounce, steak contains more of the feared soy isoflavones than does tofu.
I think the main concern is babies being fed soy formula because soy can increase a baby's estrogen levels. Millions of babies have been fed soy formula though for over 30 years and babies who were fed soy formula have grown into normal adults - the only difference in studies was that the women who were fed soy as babies had very slightly longer periods (longer by 1/3 of a day on average, I think). And the only thing that's been concluded in those studies is that people who are fed formula of any sort as babies aren't as healthy as those who are breastfed. But the concern was that feeding young boys or baby boys soy could increase their estrogen and make them turn into women or develop breasts and that it would speed up puberty in girls. I don't think these claims have been proven in any way, but it may be healthier to feed kids moderate amounts of soy. Adults I don't think there is an issue with.
Soy Estrogen
I didn't suppose it might get easier than the edamame, and then-- it did! Just hunt for roasted soy nuts at your food market. The instructions for eating these? Take them out of the bag and put them in your mouth.
a pair of. Smoothies
five. Miso
If you're trying for an easy breakfast or a refreshing snack, smoothies are a nice plan. They are simple to create, healthful, and delicious. Get the soy in your smoothie with soy milk or soy protein powder (you'll notice this at health food stores). I like blending my soy milk and protein powder with frozen strawberries (It makes a nice texture!) or frozen bananas. Heck, you may even go crazy and combine it with frozen strawberries AND bananas! I recommend using fresh fruit that you have got frozen yourself. Those baggage of frozen fruit from the foodstuff taste quite fake, however if you're very during a rush, they can do the trick.
three. Edamame
This easy Japanese soup is tasty, and it has at least a serving of soy in every bowl. You'll either build this at home (not so easy), or choose some up at a native Asian restaurant (simple).
It's time to rejoice, ladies! Getting your daily soy intake could be a great excuse for drinking a beautiful, cold glass of chocolate soy milk-- full of that nice soy milk estrogen! If you don't like chocolate (Do people like that even exist?), then you'll drink the vanilla soy milk or the unsweetened soy milk. I find that the chocolate and vanilla are nice on their own, but if you're going to drink the unsweetened soy milk, you may would like to offer it a boost of flavor. You'll be able to do that by making a smoothie.
Thus, here are five simple ways that to urge your three daily servings of soy.
You recognize the various edges of soy estrogen, you're trying to include this natural estrogen replacement into your diet, and you're wanting for easy ways in which to try to to it. Read on, my friends!
It does not get much easier than this. Just purchase these fresh soy beans at the market, pop them within the microwave for some seconds, sprinkle them with salt, and they are ready to eat. If you've never had them before, you will be wondering a way to eat them. Don't eat the shell. The shell is not enjoyable to eat. You put the whole pod in your mouth and use your teeth to scrape out the 2 or 3 soy beans inside.
4. Soy Nuts
From what I've gathered from it. Some soy has been found to be Estrogenic. But it has never been proven that it affects humans, and some studies are being done since it has shown signs of actually being benefitial. Besides that, dont know much!
Soy is one of those controversial topics right now. From what I've read, it looks like fermented soy products are the best and healthiest for you-- things like tempeh, natto, and even soy sauce. Soy lechitin is in everything--- not just the vegetarian foods-- and people in the West are eating more and more of it every day in processed foods. That's probably going to come back to bite us. I love soy too-- I just try to limit my intake of the more refined soy products.
Soya And Estrogen
Pretty much all plants contain phytoestrogens.
I got rather worried about soy myself when I first heard the scare stories, but mostly the anti-soy moment is perpetuated by the meat and dairy industry - they're scared of everyone going vegan.
There's evidence on either side for soya, but with the above taken into consideration, it definitely does you more good than harm, especially products like Alpro soya milk and yoghurt which are enriched with lots of good things like all 8 essential amino acids.
That said, I don't rely on it too much, I enjoy a wide variety in my diet and don't eat too much soya anymore simply because it is cheaper and more interesting to try different beans, nuts, milks etc. I do love the milk, yoghurt and tofu though.
There are so many myths surrounding soy right now.
Some critics say consumption of soya ''reduces testicle size'', ''turns you gay'' (how bizarre would that be?), ''makes you grow manboobs'', and I've even heard that soy can ''shrink your testicles''!! All of which claims are completely FALSE and unsubstantiated. Consuming soy does NOT feminize men!
Soy contains weak hormone-like compounds called phytoestrogens, which mimic estrogen in the body. However that being said, I highly doubt that enjoying soyfoods in moderation is going to harm you. Like any food it can be enjoyed as part of a balanced diet.
[edit] Forgot to mention- Alpro is the brand I buy. (Their soy desserts are too awesome for words).
there is WAY more estrogen in cows milk than in soy. Cows get loaded up on hormones and antibiotics to get them to produce more milk for the growers to sell. That is a large reason why human girls are now getting their first period years earlier than before. No matter how "bad" you hear soy is on this, its still WAY WAY WAY better than consuming any dairy product.
I know what you are talking about and i saw it in the news or discovery or something as well. I think it was actually on yahoo news some time back. But yes the story said it can cause men to grow breasts and pic up some Feminine characteristics.
