There are many brands of protein made from rice.
Sun Warrior is a good, but expensive one. Nutribiotic is also good.
Vega Sport is very popular. It is made from a variety of ingredients, including pea protein. It's probably the brand the previous commenter was thinking of. I am allergic to peas so I have never tried it.
Find out if you are allergic to hemp seeds. They are not nuts, even though sometimes they are labeled as hemp nuts. Hemp as an allergy is extremely uncommon.
Did the doctor tell you which nuts you are allergic to? Peanuts are not nuts. Some people might be allergic to peanuts but not tree nuts, or vice versa. Others might be allergic to just cashews or brazil nuts, but not almonds or walnuts.
I am allergic to peanuts and soy, as well as a few other specific legumes. When I was younger, an allergist mistakenly told me to avoid all nuts and even seeds in addition to peanuts. It was difficult to get enough protein on such a mistakenly restricted diet. As an adult, I went to a better allergist who did the right tests for specific individual foods. It took a long time and lots of tests, but it was well worth it. Now I am able to follow a healthy vegan diet and get all my protein!
I get plenty of protein from food, but occasionally might add a scoop of rice protein as insurance.
There are many good sources of protein in food: Amaranth, quinoa, beans, and any seeds you are safe to eat, and nutritional yeast are all powerhouses of protein. Sunflower seed butter is great, and easy to make or buy. Mash a banana into it and you have a great post-workout energy-filled snack! It's also easy to make pumpkin seed butter, which you can use to replace peanut butter or tahini in recipes or just eat as it is.
Believe it or not, many vegetables contain a lot more protein than you would think: dark green leafy veggies like kale and spinach have lots of protein, and potatoes have more than you would think too!
Even if you are very active, as I am, you don't need as much protein as all the hype would have you believe. Take your weight in pounds and divide that number by 2. That new number is how many grams of protein you need in a day. For example, if you weigh 140 pounds, you should get around 70 grams of protein. If you weigh 120, you only need about 60.
Great protein ideas: Sprinkle pumpkin and/or flax seeds onto your oatmeal. Blend hemp seeds or chia seeds into your smoothie. Have a hummus and veggie wrap for lunch. Mash a banana into sunbutter for a snack. Black beans and stir fried veggies over brown rice makes a great dinner, or go for a nice big spinach salad with sprouts and avocado and beans.
Good luck!
I have a protein powder from sam's club and it's vegan. I'm sure a lot of them are, but always read the ingredients!
