My friend has developed a bump on the edge of her hand. It's located on the left hand under the thumb - just slightly up from the edge of the hand and about 2 cm above the wrist. It is raised about 1cm and about 1cm in circumference. It feels hardish like bone or cartilage. About a year ago she broke a bone in this hand - the other side of the hand leading to the little finger and had her hand in a cast for some time. She feels this bump is unrelated to the break as it is the other side of the hand but might be something to do with the cast as it had some kind of metal rod in it. Goes without saying that she should bring it to a doctor but in the meantime welcome your thoughts. Photo here http://www.flickr.com/photos/neil_armstrong/639895...
Update:Pretty sure it isn't a wart as the skin over the bump isn't changed .. this isn't a skin issue but like a piece of bone or cartilage beneath the skin.

It's a bone or calcium buildup, normally harmless, that can result from a previous injury or improper healing of same.
Rule of thumb: (no pun intended), if it worries to the point of keeping you up at night, go to a clinic and with a few seconds of examination or even an xray, you will have your answer.
Sounds like a wart.
