Hello everyone and merry christmas to those who celebrate it. I am 35 weeks and 5 days along with my first and am having a bit of a problem sleeping. I absolutely for whatever reason cannot sleep for longer than 3 hours at a time. And then I'm awake for a long stretch of time and then fall asleep and do it all over again. Is this just my body's way of preparing for the little one or what is going on?

I have been experiencing the exact same thing! For me it's anywhere from 1-4 hours of sleep and then I'm up for a few hours, usually with terrible heartburn. It started for me right about 35 weeks and it's continued to now at 38 weeks. Not only is it the discomfort I'm experiencing like the heartburn and leg cramps I get at night but also my body trying to get me on a schedule of being up every few hours, I'm sure. Although I hate it now, I'll appreciate it once he gets here!
I'm 33 weeks and I do the same thing it's pretty annoying I have a 2 year old whom is very active and I stay absolutely worn out all the time! It does make since that your body is preparing for the little one that way because you know newborns are up about every 2 hours!
The same thing happened to me when I was pregnant. I do believe that it might be your body's way of preparing, I thought that exact same thing when I was at the last stages of pregnancy. That is a possibility, as well as the fact that your body is going through a lot. When you are that far along, laying down for any length of time is uncomfortable (at least it was for me). You might also be excited in anticipating your new little bundle of love! Good luck to you with your sleeping and your baby :) Merry Christmas to you too!
Have you tried Benadryl? It's safe for pregnant women and it makes you really drowsy. I have really bad sleeping problems and was on Lunesta before becoming pregnant, so after that I just couldn't sleep.
My OB/GYN gave me some Benadryl and it works really, really well.
Roll to your side and have your husband/boyfriend rub your back until you are relaxed enough to fall back asleep.
