I know this has been asked before...
But, I know have a Les Paul guitar, but I think STratocasters look better.
I want to know the difference, I like normal rock or hard rock, so les Paul isn't for that right?
I can get another guitar, but the problem is I am left handed.
Well anyways, Is it true that the Les Pauls weigh more than Stratocasters?
Because my guitar is really heavy when I#M playing while standing...
And what's that with single coils an humbuckers?

Ok, I'll try and help you out here.
The strat is mostly hollow under that pick guard and the body is thinner, so yes, it is lighter.
Single coils aren't wound like humbuckers, so, as the name of the latter would suggest, the single coil doesn't cancel the hum you get because of magnets and electricity and science.
Single coils can do rock (pink floyd's David Gilmour plays a strat)
Humbuckers can do rock (Zakk Wylde from BLS/Ozzy)
Singles I always thought sounded better on blues. You get more output from the humbuckers which makes for good driving tone for rhythm or lead.
For the most part it all comes down to personal preference. I want one of each simply because of the flexibility alowed by having the two styles available, but my les paul is my baby.
Left Handed strats are easy enough to find.
If the les Paul is too heavy or uncomfortable, try getting a broader strap. Maybe even a bass strap. I have a 3" wide Levy's padded leather srap that I use and it really helps relieve the tension on my shoulder. I got injured playing football so the less stress on that shoulder the better. Just a thought.
Good Luck and rock on.
there are a few differences. strats are longer and make you "work for it" 25.5 " scale where gibsons are usually shorter 24 5/8 scale length or so. les pauls are easier to play but are very heavy (12 14 lbs maybe) and will hurt your shoulder while playing until u get used to it. either guitar can be used for the rock / hard rock style. jimmy page played a les paul and jimi hendrix played a strat. the single coil pickups generally found in a strat are wound in different ways to acheive different tones. warmer towards the neck and brighter towards the bridge. the humbuckers in the les paul will offer a crunchier sound than the single coils but are not as versitle due to the constraints of traditional wiring schemes. you can achieve as many tones as a strat but it will involve some creative wiring such as coil tapping or using a 5 way selector (not sure if that could be done on a LP) my choices are LP for metal stuff and strat for bluesy stuff.
Les Pauls are fine for hard rock, at least Jimmy Page thinks so...
Single coil pickups give a brighter, more penetrating sound, but are somewhat noisier (i.e. pick up more electronic interference/hum/buzz).
Humbuckers are designed to be less noisy, and have a darker, heavier sound.
a epiphone les paul is meant for rock and a bit of metal with the stick pups but yes its ment for rock, the strat, even if you get a humbucker strat it probly wont do you enough gain to get a good rock tone, unless you want to mod the **** out of it. i would just stick with the les paul, but if you like the strat style get a ibanez RG or something, its basically a superstrat and it can defintely play rock and metal.
