I'm new to the exchange system, and I was wondering how many and what kind of exchanges would go into a 6" sweet onion chicken teriyaki sandwich on 9-grain wheat with lettuce, onion, tomato, provolone, and fat-free sweet onion sauce.
The website was very limited with the exchange information. I thank you for your help in advanced!

This is why I hate the exchange system. I have found it much easier to count carbohydrates.
I looked up the nutritional content of the sandwich, as well as what the exchanges are for all types of food, and I'm having a hard time figuring out the exact exchange.
I can tell you this: the carbohydrate count for that sandwich is 58 grams. If one starch exchange is 15 grams, then that's 3.8 exchanges or, rounded up, 4 exchanges (servings) of carbohydrates. I really don't know if I am even doing this right.
Dietary Exchange
the exchange diet is a total crock!! toss it and get either South Beach or Atkins and follow the guidelines for phase 2 of either of them.
Eat eveything on your sub sandwich except the bread!! In other words get it as a salad!! That is what I do when we go to Subway!!
I also like the new "sandwich thins" bun things!! They are great in that there is less than 1/3 of the amount of bread which is 2/3 less carb grams than the original sandwiches.
I'm stuck on BMT's. We have a Subway less than 1/4 mile from our house. They know my wife and I since we go in about every Friday or Saturday. I went in one afternoon and they asked where my wife was. She was home not feeling well and wasn't hungry. The manager asked if my wife would mind if she called her. I gave Mrs. P our number. My wife was on the phone with Mrs. P when I walked into the house. Oh, and the owners are Pakistani. I tried one of those Pastrami sandwiches....bleh! Tasteless. Good thing it was bought on a Subway gift card and not MY money.

The few times I do eat out I use the below book. Otherwise most fast food sandwiches are about 3 carb servings and 1-2 meat or lean meat servings not including any veggies, fats or dairy. If you are looking for tighter control of your diabetes consider recreating your own version of fast food favorites so you can control the carbs, sodium and fat easier.
