OK, today is the 2nd day my lymph nodes under my right ear near my jaw joint is swollen upon awakening. Yesterday, it was most swollen when I first woke up, then it gradually subsided during the day. I have no fever or any indication of an infection of any sort. Anyone have a similar experience, and how did it get resolved? Can this be an issue with my immune system going haywire, as in allergies?

My son had the same problem and even though he looked fine the doctor did some blood work and diagnosed an infection. It is best not to worry about it but have it checked by a doctor because it may also be the indication of other things.
Swollen Glands Under Jaw
It's probably a reactive swollen lymph node, due to an infection, if it's; a little bit painful-sore and the local skin is red and hot over your lymph node.
If it's malignant it's hard, there's no red color change or local fever doesn't present on it. But generally it swells in a long time.
The lymph nodes under your ear can swollen due to mostly infections, and rarely nasopharyngeal cancer (it's a cancer related with EBV or smoking), and lymphoma.
Lymph nodes swell for many reasons and sometimes you might not know why, it means that their doing the job their meant to, so try not and worry so much. Two days is not long and my Dr. told me once that it could take several weeks for them to go back down. Remember glands are muscle, so the tissue expands. You could be developing a cold sore, some type of dental problem or a cold. My sister in law is a RN and she said most of the time when our glands swell we never even know. Go to Health boards and type in swollen lymph nodes if you need more information the people are very helpful and understand your concerns. But don't research causes of swollen glands because that will stress you out even more. Call your Dr's office and see what they say.

Swollen Jaw
There are many causes for enlarged lymph nodes, depending upon the area that these lymph nodes drain( as is their function). The nodes that you have mentioned are in the neck area and for their enlargement following may be the causes:
1. Ear Infection..or what is knowm as otitis media..it can be acute or chronic and viral or bacterial
2. Any skin infection in the adjoining area..
3. Throat infection..Pharyngitis and or tonsillitis
4. Mastod infection, mouth ulcers and dental infections
5. Dermatitis or any scalp infection
These are the most common causes and there are many other causes like thyroid carcinoma, or tounge malignancy, mastoid disease and other diseases. Also Thyroglossal cyst infection may be a cause. Also in many malignancies like lymphoma. infectious mononucleosus and other such may be a cause.
Please consult your doctor.
It can be from allergies, an infection, or some other disease that have to do with white blood cells. Allergies are eosinophils & are a type of white blood cell so..Since it went down you can rule out cancer and very likely not an infection. Sounds like allergies to me hun. Now you just have to figure out what foods you are allergic to or allergies in the world. It can also be some other disease though like a thyroid problem, so please make sure to see a doctor about that to double check nothing else is wrong ;) For sure nothing serious, though so don't worry sweetheart. I hope you feel better! Try to ice it when it hurts.
do you have a cold sore or tingling in the lip area?
I had the same "lump" a few years back. I was actually working in the ER at the time and asked one of the doctors to check this my neck. he didn't have to. "it's your lip" he said.
I'm no doctor, but there must be some connection between the two.
PS
if you are having the tingling but are not showing a cold sore, hold an aspirin over the tingle for 30-60 seconds to make sure that it doesn't surface. surprisingly enough, this works. I haven't had an outbreak in almost 10 years. <knock wood.
your body's fighting something. You can help by taking a low dose of vitamin c (like 250 mg) every hour.
After about 5 or 6 hours it might upset your stomach, so just stop until you feel better.
Continue this routine until you can see your doctor. Vitamin c is a wonderful thing - it even helped me get over undiagnosed parvo
My son had the same problem but as you said no other symptoms. I was a little worried so I took him to the Doctor and it actually turned out to be Strep Throat. It was so odd because he did not have a sore throat at all. Just a little stuffy in the morning.
