i want to study abroad at Monash University in Melbourne and am looking for differences between Monash and University of Melbourne. Both options are open to me but my friend who will be joining me from another university can only do Monash. Is it ok that i'm foregoing UM for Monash? both universities are academically sound, i guess i really want to know whether i can have fun at Monash and how far it is from fun things in Melbourne and how easily accessible they are
Update:can everyone else report linette k for abuse? she's posting the same response in all questions. the link just leads you to a site with harmful content

You should go to Melbourne Uni, not only is it perfectly situated in the city it is also one of the respected Universities in Australia and the world.
What campus of Monash are you looking at? Caulfield is closer to the city, Clayton is in the middle of nowhere (no trains, no trams, only buses, about a 30 minute commute from the CBD I think). That being said, Clayton does have a vibrant campus life to make up for it.
University of Melbourne is right in the CBD, close to Lygon St (full of pizza places, kind of like a little Italy) and has a lot of student housing around, and has a high population of international students
Both are fantastic unis though. Just try and get involved in uni life as much as you can, and you will enjoy it! Even if you end up at a different uni to your friend, you can still spend a lot of time together and travel around together. You might learn about some different sights to see/places to go if you study at different places, through meeting more people. Or you could go to Monash and commute from the city?
Melbourne University is in the city. it has the reputation as the best uni in victoria.
Monash is situated out of the city, maybe 30 minute drive. I'm sure you could have fun at either.
Arent you going there to study?
