Using images in your website?
What is the best way to create and display images for a website? I am using xhtml, php, sql and css to create my website but i am not good with the image side of things.
When creating a an image, why do people sometimes creates bits of the image in photoshop and then put it together on the actual website? so for instance, a navigation menu image that has a logo on it. why not just have one image with the logo and the background all in one?

I use simply css/html for displaying images though it has been awhile since I designed anything.
The answer to the second is that you do not want the whole background to be clickable, whereas it is good practice to make the top logo a link to home. The easiest way to go about it is to chop the logo away from the rest of the header background, link it, then insert background.
