I'm writing a speech on why someone should become a vegetarian and I need a statement that "gains the audience's attention" followed by a statement that "relates the topic to the audience". This is an example that was given for an Autism/MMR speech..
GAIN AUDIENCE ATTENTION: Imagine having an 18-month old child. Your child is given the MMR shot containing a mercury preservative. Before your child turns two-years old, he/she has completely changed. Life seems to have slipped away. Was it the vaccination or something else?
RELATE TOPIC TO AUDIENCE: We have all heard news stories about whether or not there is a link between the MMR vaccination and autism. But is there a correlation between the two?
can anyone help me with something similar to that? thanks :-)

birdes beeks are cut off and its so sad to see them beekless. baby cows look like little puppys when they look around cunfused wondering why the slaughterer is traping them in a small room. right before they panic as they know they are in danger that is.
also baby pigs get theirs ears and tails and...testicals cut off with no pain killers and thats so freaking wrong........if you were to ever visit a slaughter house, you'd be vegan or vegetarian to and join the rest of us.
Coming from a meat-eater. You're not gonna win points with the carnivores by over doing the animal rights bit. Stick to something that appeals to a broader audience. Like the health benefits and reducing your grocery bill. Both things hit home to a lot of people. *How to eat healthier and save money at the same time. _edit_ I did pay attention and read your question, entirely in fact. I however wanted to make a suggestion. There's no need for you to be rude or snappy because i happen to be a thorough person. But in fact i know that's not it. It's because I'm not vegetarian. IF you wanted advice from someone who ONLY supports YOUR view. You should have just specified in the first place. Then I would have kindly skipped onto the next question I found interesting. _edit_2_ I did answer your question. See above where it says, ""How to eat healthier and save money at the same time."" You asked for a headline to get people's attention. THAT was my suggestion. You certainly have a lot to learn before you grow up. I hope one of those things is how to treat people with respect and decency when they are trying to help you. It's people like you who give other perfectly nice vegetarians and vegans a bad rap. _edit_ Boy,you sure do like putting that foot in your mouth. I hope it tastes good! And my two kids are asleep right now, thanks for caring though! :)
1. YOu love to travel. For years you've dreamed of going to see the Amazon and sail down the rivers, watching rare butterflies, birds and unique tapirs grazing in the trees. You've wanted to hear the sounds of waterfalls and sleep in a canopy tent next to lush lagoons.
But then you understand- the rain forest is now gone. IT's been razed to the ground completely. There were a few pockets left, the size of Rhode Island, but now the Brazilian government and loggers have decided to chop everything down to make way for cow grazing areas, to make McDonald's beef.
Too late. You realize you shoulda stopped supporting it long ago.
#2. You get a call from your uncle . He has Lou Gehrig's disease. (Steve Hawking.)
You are sad, and go visit him. THere's no cure. NO prognosis is good. This is a very ugly cruel disease. Nobody gets out alive. THe mostYouu can do is hope it burns out, as it does in a very few cases.
Everybody eat a little meat now and then- it's healthy, right?
Motor Neurone disease ( Lou Gehrig is one of them) is commonplacee now in society. with early diagnosis.
Eating animal flesh, full of neurons, is the one thing that is linked to theses brain degenerative diseases. Not just bad meat- close to the spinal cord, but all meat. All meat has nerves in it, these arneuronsns from the brain, through the tissue to the muscles. Eating flesh is very likely a cause of the increased amounts of motor neuron diseases that are now publicized.
Gain audience attention: Imagine a newborn calf being taken away from it's mother. The mother needs to produce milk but the milk producers need to keep her pregnant to do this so she just keeps having baby after baby until she dies or is used in a slaughterhouse. She dies diseased and you consume it on a regular basis. Imagine her baby calf, starving, barely able to stand and being auctioned off for the purpose of their meet all the while crying for their mother..
Gain audience attention: Pigs are crated in so tightly that they can't have contact with other pigs, in isolation from contact they go insane and die that way. You eat this flesh of this animal.
Relate topic to audience for attention grabber 1: Imagine having your baby ripped away from you. You cry for your child and weep milk from your breasts and the child is auctioned off to an orphanage looking for grunt labor. The child grows up with such lack of nutrition that their bones form improperly and they can't concentrate. What happens to the mother? What happens to the child? Is there a correlation? The Mother dies shortly after the baby is taken from her.. correlation?
Relate topic to audience 2 (the pig example): Imagine being a very social person but being forced to live your life in a closet with no contact to the outside world and this person slowly loses touch with reality. Correlation?
