im buying this car from my family's business contractor. She is selling it to me for $500 cause her boyfriend is giving her his new car. She said the only problem is that she went to the boyfriends fathers house to get the oil changed and he showed her that if she is in a bad part of town and is worried about her car getting stolen to pull a wire from under the steering wheel, she just laughed it off and he suposibly put it back, but on the way home the car i guess broke down, she thought at first it was a battery, but she says when she gets in the car and trys to start it the lights come on and every thing but the engine. Can anyone help me?

sounds like he sabotoged it...could be many different fuses wires or relays unhooked...they have a pretty basic wiring on that model...someone needs to check all fuses to be certain they are in place...does it turn over and just not start? try checking fuel pump fuses and also make certain wire from ignition under dash on steering wheel side...that makes the distributor hot is still hooked up...any wires unhooked that have a wire and plug of matching colors or plug in configuration should be connected...it is very hard to speculate what someone else may have done...so have some one at least a little mechanically minded check for the obvious...if I could get to where it is for you I would....
Mid eighties volvos actually are known for a particular problem with the wiring harness under the hood that goes along the firewall behind the motor. Im not saying thats the problem here I think the harness under the steering column is damaged here. BUT I WOULD NOT buy a mid 80s volvo unless I am dating a REALLY GOOD mechanic because eventually that thing will melt a harness!!!! If it hasent already!
