.com is a general site. These my be credible or phony. If the website is .edu then it is probably legitimate as only universities and educational organizations can obtain these. If it ends with .gov then it is a government site and is also likely legitimate.
When you see things like .htm, .html, and .php these are jsut the names of the specific page you are viewing. these can be disregarded. It only refers to the language used to code the page.
The domain names like .com, .co.uk, .net etc say nothing about the reliability of the page.
Neither do the filetypes like .php, .htm or .html.
All of this are common parts of URL's giving no indication of the quality of the content.
For that you need to check the reputation of the site. I use WOT for that ( http://www.mywot.com/ )
The ratings are given by web users, so it is not completely reliable, but it gives an indication.
.com, .org and so on are just the extensions of the domains. They don't determine what the source is. A reliable source means websites that tell the truth and have a good feedback rating.
Reliable sources doesn't depent on .com , .org, .html etc.
Reliable sourse can be identified by http or https
in this https, s stands for secure . . so yoou can rely on that site.
some sites reliability will be displayed by highlighted color on address bar.
red highlight has more security risk
blue one is okay
green ones are safe
Fiction.
