Where did the stereotype that Chinese people eat cats and dogs, and serve them to people, come from?
Update:I was referring to Chinese Americans. I hear people all the time say, "I'm not eating there, they cook dogs" I even hear peOple in Chinese resturaunts ask if it's really chicken in the sweet and sour chicken dishes or dog. It IS a stereotype because not ALL Chinese people in America eat dogs and cats, or serve them to customers, yet people say they do...why? That's like assuming all Americans eat hamburgers. It's all in the media also

They do eat them in China among other weird things such as tiger penis.
Don't they actually eat dogs and cats in China?
Well, I live in China, and there's dog meat all around. You can get it on noodles, in a pot of stew, or roasted as well. Yes, the Chinese people DO eat dog. However, I have never come across (or heard of) anyone over here eating cats. Also, eating dog is not for everyone over here. It's mostly found in the country-side, and mainly eaten by men. The reason for this is because it's said to be a virile food to boost strength, blood circulation and libido. I highly doubt that any American Chinese still eat dog (mainly because of cultural taboo and lack of availability), and can say with about 99.9% certainty that it would never be served to customers who ordered chicken in a Chinese restaurant- in China OR the States. Why? 'Cause it's harder to find and more expensive, not to mention a low down dirty trick. It's a pretty racist thing to accuse a Chinese restaurant of doing, and I would not be surprised to find a little snot in the dishes the next time you go there. But dogs and cats? No way.
How is it a stereotype if people china do
