He really isn't. I've read a few of his books and I honestly couldn't tell you the difference between any of the main characters after a few weeks have gone by. By the 3rd book, you realize his story ideas are extremely repetitive .
- Man woman fall in love
- some obstacle appears
- some convenient event(s) happen that let the man/woman overcome said obstacle
I don't agree that he is. Take for example the book "Safe Haven". It is basically a knock-off of Sleeping with the Enemy. I think he writes stories women can swoon over, but I don't see him as being a true "literary genius".
If this is for a school assignment, I'd challenge the fact that he even is a literary genius. Write a piece explaining to your teacher the reasons why he is NOT, and then give examples of someone who actually is a literary genius such as Thomas Pynchon. You'll get way better grades.
His book are most popular among women. His books are very romantic. Many girls read these and fantasize that a man will come and sweep her off her feet, just like the main character in the book. He knows how to connect with the reader. Also, his books aren't just sappy love drama. There is often an underlying plot. Take 'The Last Song' for example. You obviously have the main love interest. But you also have the family problems, Blaze's abusive relationship and secret discovered within the novel. This is why I love his books. They have an actual story to go along with the romance.
