The Russians however made the Germans do it over again in Russian occupied Berlin on May, 8, 1945 so Russia's highest Generals could be there too.
The US officially recognizes it as May, 8, 1945, the British May 7th. The Russian celebrate it May 9th due to time/ dateline difference for them.

they were defeated, simple as that. Russia was advancing from the east & the allies were advancing from the west onto Berlin, they were defeated.
