First. I like it when the characters get introduced and the relationships between them are brand new and we get to see how they form. The character naivity is charming.
I absolutely LOVE The Goblet of Fire. That is the book I could just read over and over again. I think that was the book that JK Rowling's writing style really improved (But all her books are brilliant of course!) I also really liked that one because it seemed different from all the other books, and for me, the darkest. It was the return of Voldemort, and I think the book has many subplots that really connected. There were so many introductions to new, interesting characters. I especially liked the 'Triwizard Tournament', because we got to see foreign wizards, because before, we the readers didn't really know much about wizards from different countries.
I also think this was the one that Harry really grew up. He had to face the fact that no one believed that Voldemort returned, and competing in the tournament. All the experiences are so real, I mean Harry's pain feels so normal and realistic. This was the point in the series where the basic plot formed into something more complex. The emotions were more intense in this one.
All in all, this is my favourite series, so choosing a favourite book is hard. But the 4th book was just so brilliantly written and entertaining for me, and it was a lot darker and more grown up.
I personally prefer the Deathly Hallows because it shows what I'm doing after Hogwarts, which is being an amazingly awesome, kick butt, ninjapirate radio host!

The Half Blood Prince and The Deathly Hallows are my two favorites.

I would have to say Deathly Hallows because of the reason The Dark Lord is defeated. He causes too many issues within my family.
I found #1 & 6 to be fairly interesting (so-so), but all the other books were incredibly fun to read.
