"The Amber Spyglass" was my favorite. It wasn't so blase' of an ending, and didn't kill all the characters off. (I was finishing up The Dark Tower Series at the time of reading, and I'm still p'd off at Stephen King.) The comparative similarities between "His Dark Materials" and the bible show up more in this book, with references to Adam and Eve and even some Greek mythology built in. There's no happy ending, but it's a satisfying ending.
