It's not fair to compare the two characters.

Nicholsons Joker was in a comic book movie, Ledgers was trying to be based more realistically.

Ledger would get it but that's because the character was better written.

completely different looks on a character. Nicholson was what most of us knew as the joker from the television series... Ledger was truly Dark Knight material... Ledger was also more reality based...therefore far more terrifying

well they each portrayed him in a different way
