Bowl-lift or tilt head? Stainless steel or glass bowl? All of the mixers seem to be pretty much the same to me. What are the big differences? I have a cheap Sunbeam stand mixer now and I am not happy with it. The motor is very loud, I also do not like that I have to stop and scrape the side of the bowl. ( I know I will not have to do this with the Kitchenaid) How loud would you say the mixer is? I do a lot of cookie dough so that will be my main use. I would like to use my mixer for other things such as making pasta. How well does the pasta attachment work?

I have a Kitchen Aid tilt head and love it. I have both a glass bowl and a stainless bowl. I also bought a beater attachment from "Chefs" catalog that has rubber 'spatula type' sides that reduce the amount of scraping down the sides of the bowl. You will still have to scrape down the bowl with a Kitchen Aid though to ensure that your ingredients are incorporated. The motor is powerful and not all that loud though you can't talk on the phone while it is running.
I have the pasta attachment and love it. I also have the sausage attachment.
I have a KitchenAid and LOVE IT!! The bowl basically depends on what you are mixing. A cold metal bowl works much better for whipping cream or egg whites(for meringues). I have both stainless & glass for mine. Also the tilt head makes things much easier. I don't find mine overly loud, in fact, I don't think its as loud as my hand mixer. The one I purchased came with 3 different mixing attachments: balloon whisk, dough hook & mixing paddle. Very sturdy and very easy to clean.
While there is more room than some mixers, simply from a safety point, I would still stop the mixer to scrape down(personal experience talking here, I tried it and wracked the heck out of my knuckles! lol)
I don't have the pasta attachment for mine, but I have used one that belonged to a friend. It worked great! Have also used the sausage stuffer/meat grinder--wonderful!
I don't think you can go wrong with KitchenAid. A friend of mine has one that is nearly 30 yrs. old and still going strong :)
i can not think of any horror thoughts the two! My mom and that i've got basically had KitchenAid mixers, they're the very ultimate!!! i can not think of baking with out it!!!! Kitchen help mixers are utilized by using the experts, change on nutrients community, it relatively is all they use, and it relatively is all I ever see all and sundry use, they're stunning and that they stand by using their products, if there is ever something incorrect, they're going to help you! i like mine and does no longer bake with out it! i became even pondering a 2nd one! I easily have the large 6qt. I had the smaller one, yet i became constantly baking for my niece's class and her events in school, so my sister have been given me the bigger one as a results of fact it could take me extra desirable than one batch, with this vast one, i can in wonderful condition lots in there and do lots! i like it and that i'm getting issues completed SO quickly in it! I did pass out and get yet another bowl so i did no longer ought to purchase a 2nd one so now whilst i ought to do 2 issues on the comparable time, I easily have the two bowls and don't ought to be concerned. i like my KitchenAid. I gave my ultimate buddy my old one and she or he LOVES it and does no longer be with out it and that i understand each physique that i understand feels the comparable way approximately theirs. I even have the KitchenAid hand mixer, the nutrients processors, and so on and you will't pass incorrect with any of their products. they have been around invariably, they're particularly rated, and that they stand by using their product. the only product I did have a project with became their espresso maker and that they wrote to me and advised ME approximately it and presented me ANY product i wanted for the comparable quantity and it became YEARS LATER!!! it relatively is shopper provider!!! you do no longer locate that those days and that's this type of provider you get from KitchenAid and that i does no longer provide up my mixer for yet another type, there is not any type that stands as much as them!!!
I prefer the 5 qt. mixer with the stainless bowl. I tried the 4.5 qt. and it is OK but the 5 qt gives you more room to work with which is good for more mixing room for larger recipes. and the stainless bowls are better as they wont break if dropped accidentally.
I would opt for the Tilt Bowl with the accessories.

I think the extra $80.00 for the 5Q would justify it if I had the usage, but for me the smaller 4.5Q would be large enough.
A Lifting Bowl on and off could feel heavy when full of dough.
Sorry I can't comment about sound.
You should get the bowl lift.I have one and it's great!
