Pale green and pale yellow
tan/beige, pale yellow and white (think along the lines of classic winnie the pooh)
red and white
(with possibly a little black thrown in for contrast - also can be changed to lady bird or fire engine theme later on?)
mix of bright colours
Or if you weren't finding out the sex of your baby would you just get the basic stuff like cot sheets and stuff in white and then decorate later?
Which would you choose and why? Or can you think of any other unisex colour schemes that don't make it look really boring.
Thanks! my SIL and I are trying to decide what she should do when she has a baby, which is hopefully real soon!!!

I actually saw the awesome room recently.
It was Orange, with removable wall borders of farm animals. I know Orange gross, that's something Charli would put in her house, but seriously this did look fab-o.
Out of your ideas, I love the pale green and yellow - I'd prefer it brighter (bright colours are in).
We had an outer space theme for Ryan & Cody, and an underwater theme for William & Tobias.
- I always loved white bedding for my boys. I don't know why, I just like it. I did however love the brighter colour bedding. I went to Spot light and bought all these different colours and made sheets, blankets, beanbags, and cushions (floor). Saved heaps of money that way.

That is almost identical to my friends room, however they had darker orange around the edges.

I like the tan/beige etc, then when you know the sex, or when the baby's born the blues and pinks go nicely with that too. And the classic winnie the pooh is good for boys or girls.
I like the red, white and black too. That would be pretty funky!
Pale green and pale yellow is ok but a bit boring really and too many mixed brights can look a bit cluttered and messy (just my opinion).
With the cot sheets I just bought plain white ones but then again if you were to go the winnie the pooh you could get them. Waiting to decorate after the baby arrives I don't think is a very good idea because then it tends to not happen for ages as it is so hard to find the time to do anything other than the basics of day to day living with a baby.
I really really am liking red for baby stuff, but it seems hard to come by. I love the bright stuff.
If I had to go with pastels, which I just might have no choice in, I'm thinking of going with green. They say pale green helps relax the eyes and is easy to look at for a long period of time. I'm not much of a fan of pink or blue to be honest, so there's a good chance I'll end up with green whether it's a boy or a girl!
Pale beiges and browns could be kinda cute. Throw in a couple giraffs and an elephant and you have a cute little saffari theme, that might stick with the kids intrests a little longer. You could even incorperate some wicker furiture and stuff as well?
Good luck to your SIL!
I'm gonna star this as well for ideas. Thanks.
I like red and white. We did that with #3, and a little bit of black (in a shelf, the crib, some trim, etc.). Baby was a girl (well, still is!) AND decided she had a penchant for ladybugs, so that worked out well- now she has a lady-bug appropriate room, very cute. I liked the primary colors because they offer more interest for baby. Although, I also like all white. WIth my last, even though u.s showed him to be a boy I didn't quite believe it (we have such a pattern of girls here). I bought in all white, and for linens I found vintage, embroidered french crib linens & window treatments - it's cute.
I like green the best. This is what we did: before we found out the sex of baby, we picked colors (light green and dark green) and chose a theme (rainforest). We chose posters crib bedding, etc with the rainforest theme. The colors are bright and green is a neutral color. Good luck.
