Yes the Engine will fit. They've used the same engine family in the cavalier for many generations.

you have to go newer drive train into an older chassis. your 2002 would need an 02 or newer engine. BUT the blocks dont change that much. as long as it is the same engine size, you should be in good shape aside from inspections.
