Will it damage my new dvd recorder drive if i insert an scratched disk ?
There is this very good dvd disc of an concert that i always watch over and over again and it is getting a little scratched up and i wanted to make a backup copy so i can watch the backup copy instead. Is it going to damage my dvd drive because of the scratched surface ?

no. there's no physical contact between the laser and the disk. you cant do any damage.
No, but the copy might suffer a bit if the scratches cause any skipping.
You could go out and get one of those CD/DVD scratch removers and run it through that first.
