why does american football have so many flags/rules now? ?
I Watched old vhs tapes of nfl games it was lot more physical allowed as far as car crashing hits and taunts allowed. seems todays game is watered down and very catored to offense and breaking records passing. why is that? kinda of takes away from the game when so many flags and refs intervene in everything. also goodell fining people for every little thing.

BTW, all passing games lead to more open field hits at high speed. High speed hits lead to more concussions. Players stretching to catch the ball are defenseless. Running backs were able to protect themselves much better.

They want more touchdowns, so over the years the rules have been changed in favor of the offense. This started in 1978 when pass interference rules were changed in favor of the receiver.

It is easier to referee with new technology and they don't care about encouraging the star ruffians anymore. In truth, the most aggressive and violent one (that's allowed) always wins. Astroturf is different from playing on grass and that may make some difference, too.
